Women Building Futures

The power behind Women Building Futures (WBF) is our ability to transform lives in a way that is practical,
ongoing and meaningful.

Alberta’s economy is booming, wages are steadily increasing, the cost of living is rising – yet thousands of
women work at minimum wage jobs or collect welfare and live in poverty. Entire industries search across
the country and around the globe to fi ll their labour needs while a huge untapped source of labour is
available right here in Alberta.

Historically, women have made up a very small percentage of the skilled trades workforce. Our
Journeywoman Start (JWS) program provides employers with the opportunity to hire talented graduates
who are well trained and eager to work.

The JWS program provides graduates with a real future; building confi dence and self-esteem on the
jobsite, at home and in the community.

WBF has had an incredible year, as the content of this report reveals. Over 200 women have graduated
from the program and are now working in well-paying jobs with a future, our fi nancial picture is stable
and we are positioned to move our expansion plans forward.
